House Ethics Committee Stalls On Abramhof Investigation, Pursues Probe Against Democrat In 1996 Incident

This is suposed to be an ethics committee? They stall on investigating those who had dealings with Abramhoff, probably because most of them are Republicans, and only continue this investigation. I don't understand why Americans allow all of this to go on. Bush gets away with every incompetent action he takes, and there is stalling on these other issues. People need to wake up and do something about it.

Conservatives Claim War On Christianity

Where is this big war on Christians? Most people in this country consider themselves Christians, and live their lives by their personal and religious beliefs, not bothering anyone. The far right is creating a war, in order to politicize their religious views. A war because alot of people want abortion to be legal? If your religious views go against abortion, then live your life that way, I have alot of respect for that. The far right wants to make Christianity a political party-a force that dictates public policy. There is no war but the one that they are inciting.

It will occur at 5AM EST. Here is a link to view it. It's a little confusing, but you have to go to the right of the screen, and under the column that says "Watch Live Webcast", click either Windows Media Player or Real Media, which ever one you use. The video will start at 5, is how I think it works. You can also view a rebroadcast, one hour after the event, if you scroll down.

Tennesee Representative Says Gays Adopt To Molest

Can this woman be any more stupid? Pedophila has nothing to do with sexuality. It is a serious, gross, deformity. Straight people might molest. Gay people might molest. Priests sure might molest. What a dumb ass. The article quotes her as saying that gays might molest. But there sure must be a reason she is making a public display of her idiocity. Probably because she really beleives all gays molest.

Business In Quandry Over Guest Worker Program

Why is Congress so baffled by the dynamics here? The argument states that Americans don't want these low paying jobs that immigrants will perform, because of the low wage and because it is "backbreaking work". So what? We have hundreds of thousands of people on welfare-make them take one of these jobs if they want to keep their assistance checks coming in. Don't penalize them for doing so-it can be additional income. Some will balk at giving a welfare check and earning money actually working, but we all know welfare does not provide for a decent life and at least, it will cut down on immigrants taking US jobs. And the argument of backbreaking work? So what? Unless you are disabled, I'm sure there are lots of healthy men on the public assistance rolls who are able bodied to do the work, if immigrants can do it, so can they.

The Bush Bash-Flash Cartoon

L.A. March One Of Largest Protests In US History

So all of these people don't want our borders secured and don't want illegal immigration to be a felony. We have sat in this issue for way too long. Now we have a country, full of people who aren't supposed to be here, but somehow are. A country full of young people whose relatives are here illegally. A country where illegals are doing alot of work that many Americans would not consider doing, they'd rather go on welfare. A country full of legal immigrants, who don't want their illegal family and friends to be deported or criminalized. Of course they don't want these measures to go into effect. It's our own doing. We are a country who has always prided ourselves on taking in all who want to be here, but never took the time to devise a plan to ensure that it is done the right way. So now all these people are here. Who can blame them for not wanting things to change? Of course, this is a serious problem, especially in light of terrorism and the risks we face by allowing this to go on, and there has to be immigration reform, but looking at it from the perspectives of legal immigrants who love the opportunities they have in this country, and even those who may be here illegally who believe that if they get here one way or another to this country that is built on immigrants, they will have this great life, who can blame them?

7 Year Old African American Girl Writes Racist Poem And Is Praised

I've read a number of stories about this young girl. Undoubtedly, she is intelligent and talented. It is a shame that her parents have chosen to teach her racist ideologies instead of letting her play with dolls as she should be at her age. Other stories I have read have said that this girl blames whites for slavery. I suppose her parents did not teach her that blacks are responsible for selling their own people to white slave owners. She then tells her white classmates to sit down when reading the poem/pledge. If a white student had done that, black parents would be filing lawsuits claiming racial discrimination. I am so sick to death of blacks complaining about racism, and then turning around and practicing it so blatantly themselves, including twisting history around and teaching their children untruths in the name of dignity. What dignity is there in that?

Why don't blacks teach their children about the white president who freed them? Or the thousands of white soldiers who fought for their freedom in the Civil War? Or all of the white people who stood with them during the racial strife in the 60's? Or the fact that there are successful black Americans who have reached their potential because of the opportunities that they have in this country?

Jews have survived a very horrible experience themselves, called the Holocaust. But American Jews have been much more successful in incorporating that painful experience into the collective psyche and using it to further themselves as a culture. You don't hear Jews complaining about reparations, white Germans killing them, etc. They are some of the most successful people on the planet-because they dropped the victim mentality. When you are an eternal victim, you will never succeed because you are too busy focusing on who is keeping you down instead of proving to people that you won't be kept down. It's growing very tiresome.

Dubai World Gives Up Port Deal

Bush has egg on his face. Not only did his party overrun him on this, but apparently, Dubai World did not have enough confidence in his ability to work with Congress to assure acceptance of the deal. It is the best thing. I understand about doing business globally, but there is absolutely no reason why any foreign company should be managing our ports. Apparently, there are US Companies who can do the job that they should have been doing in the first place. We can do business with other countries in thousands of ways, and don't need to apologize for US citizens insisting that our own companies ensure our security.

9/11 Family Member To Begin Vigil

Sister of firefighter will sleep across from place where 9/11 memorial will be built, to protest plans for the center. I think some of the 9/11 families are getting out of control. This memorial should have been started a long time ago, but I think that due to so much protest, here we are so many years later and it hasn't been started. The memory of all of those murdered on 9/11 is in the hearts of their families and all Americans. A building is not going to keep their memory alive. People will go to New York and go to the memorial, pay their respects, and then return to where they came from to go on with their lives. Hopefully, most people think about 9/11 and remember those who died, but some memorial is not what is going to make that happen.

Men already don't take responsibility for their children, now this. The trouble with this law would be, how would you determine the woman's motivation for not having an abortion? I am not necessarily against a Dubai company doing business with the US, but in this day, a review of Middle Eastern companies getting US Contracts is not unreasonable. People in the Middle East have to understand, that most terrorists out to get the US, come from that area of the world. With every such review will come more business for them and greater tolerance and acceptance by the American people. The vast majority of people in the Middle East are not terrorists, but most terrorists are from the Middle East.

Brown Warned Bush About Katrina-Videotape

Maybe Brown was not as incompetant as portrayed. He had the sense to listen to experts about the severity of this storm and raised concerns about using the Superdome holding up as a viable shelter. Four days after Bush was told of the severity of the storm and the potential for the break in the levee's, he tells us that noone could have predicted it. I could have predicted it. I saw all of the meteorologists talking about this storm and the devestation it would cause and heard experts talking about levee's not being able to withstand this.

If Brown was fired because he allegedly did nothing, why is Bush still here?

US Troops Do Not Believe They Can Win War

A poll of US troops in Iraq shows. Mostly due to low number of troops to do the job. They believe withdrawal needs to occur within one year unless more troops are sent to Iraq. The troops can not contain the insurgency since the start, if this breaks out into a civil war, there will be no choice but to send alot more troops. The US will be seen as responsible and pivitol in a civil war and will have a critical role.

A new poll to be released Tuesday shows that U.S. soldiers overwhelmingly want out of Iraq -- and soon.

The poll is the first of U.S. troops currently serving in Iraq, according to John Zogby, the pollster. Conducted by Zogby International and LeMoyne College, it asked 944 service members, "How long should U.S. troops stay in Iraq?"

Only 23 percent backed Bush's position that they should stay as long as necessary. In contrast, 72 percent said that U.S. troops should be pulled out within one year. Of those, 29 percent said they should withdraw "immediately..."

While the White House emphasizes the threat from non-Iraqi terrorists, only 26 percent of the U.S. troops say that the insurgency would end if those foreign fighters could be kept out. A plurality believes that the insurgency is made up overwhelmingly of discontented Iraqi Sunnis...

By a 2-1 ratio, the troops said that "to control the insurgency we need to double the level of ground troops and bombing missions." And since there is zero chance of that happening, a majority of troops seemed to be saying that they believe this war to be unwinnable.

This first systematic look at the views of the U.S. troops on the ground suggests that our present strategy in Iraq is failing badly. The troops overwhelmingly don't want to "stay the course," and they don't seem to think the American strategy can succeed.

#

Zogby excerpts:
The poll, conducted in conjunction with Le Moyne College’s Center for Peace and Global Studies, showed that 29% of the respondents, serving in various branches of the armed forces, said the U.S. should leave Iraq “immediately,” while another 22% said they should leave in the next six months. Another 21% said troops should be out between six and 12 months, while 23% said they should stay “as long as they are needed.”

Different branches had quite different sentiments on the question, the poll shows. While 89% of reserves and 82% of those in the National Guard said the U.S. should leave Iraq within a year, 58% of Marines think so. Seven in ten of those in the regular Army thought the U.S. should leave Iraq in the next year. Moreover, about three-quarters of those in National Guard and Reserve units favor withdrawal within six months, just 15% of Marines felt that way. About half of those in the regular Army favored withdrawal from Iraq in the next six months.

The troops have drawn different conclusions about fellow citizens back home. Asked why they think some Americans favor rapid U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq, 37% of troops serving there said those Americans are unpatriotic, while 20% believe people back home don’t believe a continued occupation will work. Another 16% said they believe those favoring a quick withdrawal do so because they oppose the use of the military in a pre-emptive war, while 15% said they do not believe those Americans understand the need for the U.S. troops in Iraq.

The wide-ranging poll also shows that 58% of those serving in country say the U.S. mission in Iraq is clear in their minds, while 42% said it is either somewhat or very unclear to them, that they have no understanding of it at all, or are unsure. While 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks,” 77% said they also believe the main or a major reason for the war was “to stop Saddam from protecting al Qaeda in Iraq.”
