Philadelphia May Ban Boy Scouts From Art Museum

I don't know how the Boy Scouts can challange this. They use taxpayer money. They can't discriminate against gays. Noone is saying that they have to promote it, but they can't ban gays. It's a federal law. They kicked out an 18 year old who came out. The Boy Scouts should have told him that their program is not about dealing with sexuality, wether it be homosexual or heterosexual, and that their program is not the place for anyone to have discussions about sexuality, and if he refused to comply, then maybe then to kick him out...but that policy has to apply to everyone.

It is a shame that the Boy Scouts wont let ALL kids have that opportunity to get what they need to be good adults, and its a shame that the court allows this organization to discriminate. And the art museum made their offer of permanent space for the Boy Scouts like a million years ago. The gave space to the Boys Scouts, not the Straight Scouts. I applaud them for wanting every boy who wants to join this organization, an opportunity to do so. The art museum, city, is not denying anyone a chance to participate...the Boys Scouts are doing that.

How do the Scouts use taxpayer money?

I have three sons in Scouts. They have never had any government funding of any type.

The Philadelphia Boy Scouts get funding from the United Way. The Pentagon has sunded national Boy Scout Jamborees. The Boy Scouts ARE Funded by taxpayer money, through various organizations that donate money to them, that are federally funded. These are two examples. I don't know if your particular group is funded by government money, but nationally, they are and that money trickles down.

Also, many troops are sponsored by fire and police departments. In California, a Boy Scout troop lost a suit having to do with separation of church and state, because of government funding issues such as a state park being their local headquarters. The information is easy to find. Do some research.
